Constitutional Revisions!
The Tribal Council has been hard at work on proposed revisions
to the Constitution for the past six months. Key proposed
changes include expanding the definition of Tribal jurisdiction
to include our ancestral territory and reinstating District
Elections, consistent with the intent of the Karuk governing
body before adoption of the current BIA Constitution. Your
feedback and participation in these important changes are
needed!
The Tribal Council has scheduled three tribal community
meetings for Happy Camp, Yreka, and Orleans. All eligible
voters are encouraged to attend the meetings and give their
valuable input. Tribal members and Registered Descendents
only, please. If there are other interested persons who
have questions about the Karuk Tribe's jurisdiction, they
are welcome to contact us with their questions or to set
up a meeting with Council. The meeting dates, times, and
locations for the Membership meetings are as follows:
Monday, September 12, 2005 from 5 to 7 PM at
the Yreka Housing Authority Office;
Monday, September 19, 2005 from 5 to 7 PM in
the Multi-Purpose Room (Old Gymnasium); and Monday, September
26, 2005 from 5 to 7 PM in the DNR Community Room.
