Named Buffet Award Honoree

The 5th Annual Buffet Award for Indiginous Leadership will honor several Native American leaders for their significant contributions to improving the social, environmental, and cultural conditions of Native People.
The 9th Annual Nathaniel S. Bingham Memorial Awards were presented to Earl Crosby of the Karuk Tribe of California and the Shasta Valley Resource Conservation District at the Klamath River Basin Fisheries Task Force meeting on October 19, 2005, in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
Happy Camp, CA – A recent analysis of water samples from Copco and Iron Gate Reservoirs reveal high levels of the toxic blue-green algae Microcystis aeruginosa which produces a compound known to cause liver failure. Samples taken from areas frequented by recreational users of the reservoir contained cell counts 100 times greater than what the World Health Organization (WHO) considers a moderate health risk.
A fifteen-strong delegation, representing four Native American Indian Tribes from California and Oregon return to Scotland this week (beginning Monday 18 July 2005) as part of their campaign to remove Klamath Dams.
Happy Camp, CA – Tribes from Northern California and Southern Oregon will return to Scotland later this month to attend Scottish Power’s (NYSE – SPI) shareholder meeting. Tribal leaders will demand dam removal on the Klamath River as part of the company’s dam relicensing agreement.
