Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance Office
The T.E.R.O. department implements the TERO ordinance and has a Commission of six tribal members who oversee the activities of the department. The TERO Ordinance is tribal law and governs Indian preference in hiring and contracting. It institutes the TERO fee of 1% on all contracts over $2500 that is used for workforce training development activities and other kinds of assistance that help our tribal members become employable and more self sufficient. TERO also supports other tribal programs through collaboration and also sponsors activities at the annual Tribal Reunion. TERO also certifies Karuk-owned Indian businesses and can provide more information if requested.
Currently the TERO Commission is working on updating our TERO ordinance to provide greater employee protections and make some of our current policies into tribal law. This is an important step for economic development and to ensure health and safety for our tribal employees.
The TERO Commission meets every other month, contact the TERO Director if you would like information about upcoming meetings.
